This is most probably related to the two steps verification in gmail. You activated this service to make your account safer. Thus, you have to give any other device or software a special code to allow connecting to google account.
To get an application specific password go here
https://www.google.com/accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens
Just add a new app or device and get the new code. Copy the code and past it instead of you gmail password when asked in you android phone.
This new password will not stored anywhere. So, if you loose it, just create another password by repeating all above-mentioned steps.
